Mohonk Preserve, New Paltz, NY

My friend and I went back and did another trail!
This time, we went to the private Mohonk Preserve.

She really wanted me to join her with a more challenging trail, so we did some rock scramble fun.

Rock scramble trails are just trails that require you to climb over rocks of different shapes to get to the highest point of the craig.

After about 15-20 min or so, we made it to the top without tripping and falling into the sea of rocks below us. YAY.
The view up top was wonderful. There is a feeling of freedom in the breath that we breathe. I really wished that I could hold on to that feeling just a bit longer.

However, for this trail you have to be really confident in your physical strength. I was certainly high on my excitement to complete the trail without being afraid.

Also, during off peak season, there aren't as many people hiking so you can have this view all to yourself!
We also did a longer rock scramble course later in the afternoon after our quick lunch. This trail is located on the other side of the preserve near the Mohonk Mountain House.

I highly recommend this if you are interested in this type of adventure. Like I said before though, you just can't be afraid of it or you'll never make it!

(This trail is a bit crowded with vacationers and hikers though. I would do the other trail first.)
The view up top was great. After climbing through a tight crack between two rock walls you came out to this blissful landscape. And come on now, after all that work to get here, you deserve every bit of this view!

Over all, I enjoyed our little trip to the Mohonk Preserve. I didn't post up the pictures of the actual rock scramble trail. I believe that you have to experience this in person.

Giving away too much takes away some of the mystery and fun in our adventures.

Make sure to hike with some friends that you adore :)
